Music: If I Only Had The Heart - The Maine
I am now feeling very very proud of myself. Today was a first for many things and eventhough I am super exhausted, I shall be gracious to all you readers- whoever it may be -and fill in a substantial post.
First and foremost, I am proud to say that I have broken my record of "how long I can stay awake for". My last standing record was staying up til 6 in the morning. This time, I lasted right through 7! And I only caved in because I felt that I should be sleeping, seeing as how today was going to be a long day. Blame it on the cappuccino but it felt great getting to be up the entire night! I could hear my mom getting up when I was just about to tuck myself in. It's like being in another different timezone all together.
We were set to leave at 12 and I only woke up 5 to that designated time. So yes, I functioned today on only less than 5 hours of sleep. Caffeine does wonders to a person. My new bestfriend, yes oh yes.
I left with my dad down to church to get the American interns that were here for 2 weeks. We were gonna bring them to Kuala Selangor for seafood and fireflies. But before that, we decided to stop at Batu Caves.
I was never fascinated with that place. No offence to Hindu people out there, but yeah, it just never intrigued me. Today however, being the Malaysian, I was forced to bring them there. So we got there and the place was such a tourist magnet. And there were monkeys everywhere. I mean, everywhere. The fact that we had 375 steps to scale up didn't make the whole adventure easier. But of course, we climbed all the way up and guess what? More monkeys. Greaaaaat. I was not in proper attire at all. I had jeans and flip flops on. Old pair of flip flops. As expected, I did have minor glitches here and there because it was pretty wet.
So there, conquered Batu Caves after 18 years of living in Malaysia.
We crammed back into my car and started our one hour drive out of town. The only reason why I wanted to follow today was because I had a sudden craving for prawns. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of seafood all this while. It's not that I don't like it but more of I can live without it. I treat seafood like any other Chinese food out there. What a shame, I know. Anyway today I just had the urge to eat prawns, so I jumped at the opportunity to go.
We stopped by the lighthouse first because it was still early and they wanted to look around. Naturally, I was hungry already by that time because I didn't have time to eat breakfast or lunch. Decided to grab a packet of chips along with me. We sat on this tram up the hill to the lighthouse.
To my horror, the place was swarming with monkeys. And no, not just "oh look, a monkey in the tree!". When I say swarming, I mean it literally. There were easily 30-40 monkeys up there. Now, it wasn't my first time up there so I knew there were going to be monkeys. Here's the thing though, it was my first time up with a bag of chips! When they saw me, they started crowding around me, trying to get hold of the food in my hands.
So tell me, what do you do when you have a large flock of wild monkeys crowding around you? You freeze and you definitely scream. I couldn't move. Rachel was beside me and she was equally as terrified (she had some food in her hands as well)
Caleb (one of the interns) came and helped shoo the monkeys away. Phew, we were safe! And we still got to hold on to our food, I said to myself. That thought came too soon. The minute I stepped down, I realized they were still staring at us. Before I knew it, they were coming closer and closer. I huddled towards Rachel, on the verge of just fleeing the scene.
Out of nowhere, this huge ass monkey lunged towards us and that did it for me. I released the packet of chips and ran for my life. All of them came and grabbed the food we threw. That was the scariest encounter of the day for me and Rachel. We were freaking out at every sound and stare they made at us. I was deeply traumatized and am now monkey-phobic. I don't care if that sounded lame.
Caleb on the other hand had didn't mind those monkeys climbing all over him and feeding them. That boy is crazy. Must be the Italian in him.
Dinner was 100% seafood. I really do feel bad for people who are allergic or deathly allergic to seafood. I mean they are seriously missing out on something. We spent 2 hours at the restaurant eating up every prawn and squid and fish left. Caleb ate the entire fish plus the eyeballs! It was fun watching him do it and actually liking it.
The fireflies were as always, magical. The mosquitoes however ruined the entire magic of it. Curse you blood sucking demons.
Tired is all I can say for now. Pictures are still in the camera which is right opposite me but am too lazy to resize and load. Promise you it'll be in tomorrow's post.
Am currently behind in means of homework. They are steadily piling up and I'm gonna regret if I don't take action soon enough. Woes of a student, I'm sure most of you can relate.
